College launches mobile access to IT office
February 02, 2012
The West Virginia University Office of Information Technology recently announced students can access the office's resources from smartphones and mobile devices. The new technology will allow students to view the OIT's calendar, search for Wi-Fi locations on campus, receive updates from the office and connect with IT professionals for troubleshooting help.
The Daily Anthenaeum reported the new mobile help desk feature enables students to submit computer or IT-related questions to OIT workers for help, using email, phone or video conferencing services. Students can access valuable information and services from their mobile device while on the go.
OIT marketing and communications manager Chet Cook told the news source that the office's new mobile capabilities offer a convenient way for students to have their IT questions answered. The school developed the idea when it realized mores students are working from smartphones and tablets and could benefit from a mobile platform. The technology helps keep the school up to date with the latest trends in communications and IT troubleshooting.
"Now users can activate their accounts, change their passwords and get help if they've forgotten it - all from their phone," Cook told the source. "OIT Helpdesk can also be access, which allows users to get technological support fast and right from phone or tablet."
In honor of Digital Learning Day, a nationwide effort to increase the use of technology in schools, the schools in Gadsden, Alabama, are incorporating new technology into their daily coursework. The Gasden Times reported schools in the local district have added more computers, digital cameras, video conferencing labs and interactive white boards to enhance the IT tools available to students.
